Senior Agronomist

Where are you going to work?

You will be entering an international organization which is growing and under development. The agronomy department is part of the recently established Potato Centre of Expertise in which you will join a group of energetic people in the areas of sustainability, quality assurance, agro business intelligence & agronomy.  

The agronomy team needs to be further developed and aligned with the strategic objectives of the organization, furthermore, it is crucial to go from individual actions and knowhow towards best practices (creating one way of working and harmonizing data and processes).   

As a senior agronomist you will play a pivotal role in our company's success by overseeing and managing all aspects of potato cultivation and agronomic practices. This position requires a dynamic and experienced individual who can lead and develop a team of agro professionals, is able to translate new (cutting-edge) agronomic techniques into practical working methods for our farmers and support the implementation of our future-proof farming strategy. This to ensure our farmers can achieve the highest quality and yield of potatoes while improving environmental sustainability.  

You will be reporting to the Manager Potato Expertise, but you will also be an important sparring partner to further develop the center of expertise at Aviko. Furthermore, you will be in close contact with other Aviko departments, e.g. sustainability, purchase, field managers and our farmers.

What will you do?

  • Provide (agronomic) input and drive implementation of our sustainability strategy and sustainable, future-proof agriculture programs   
  • Develop a clear understanding on how to best produce the key varieties within Aviko’s portfolio and unlock this information towards our farmers and field officers  
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of agronomists, independent contractors and seasonal workers to ensure efficient and effective operations 
  • Ensure Aviko Agronomy becomes a place where Aviko farmers will turn to when in doubt 
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest agronomic research and technology trends to drive innovation and continuous improvement in potato cultivation 
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant agricultural regulations and environmental guidelines and safeguard quick and easy access to relevant information about substances that might be found in our raw materials. 

What do you bring?

  • Master's degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Plant Sciences, or related field 
  • Proven experience in agronomy and potato cultivation, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role 
  • In-depth knowledge of potato agronomy, including soil health, crop rotation, pest management, and irrigation 
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Proficiency in relevant software and technology for agronomy management.
